18 July v The Ship Victory
Mollington 150-3 (20 overs) The Ship 152-8 (19.3 overs) An exciting finish in a high scoring contest. Over 300 runs scored. Unfortunately Mollington fell just short as The Ship claimed victory with three balls to spare. Mollington batted first and piled on the runs on a warm summer's evening. Retirement scores of 25+ for James Pownall, Geoffrey Bibby and Mike Rimmer contributed to Mollington's highest score of the season; 150. It was not quite enough. Some equally impressive hitting by The Ship Victory kept them on target. Splendid bowling and fielding by Mollington constantly captured wickets which threatened to stall their progress. Two wickets apiece for Jason Stoneley and James Pownall resulted in a tense finale. A terrific game against well matched and friendly opponents. Great weather. At the end of it all, the result seems unimportant. 9 July v Spasmodics

Mollington 144-4 (20 overs) The Ship 136-6 (20 overs) On election day, the latest result to be declared is an 8 run victory for Mollington. A low turnout of 6 meant that Mollington somehow conjured up a game never mind a win. Dual roles for everyone. The opposition were generous in lending us extra fielders. Batting first, impressive form from Mark Littler (50 not out) and Geoffrey Bibby (39 retired) meant that Mollington posted a competitive 144. In response, The Ship Victory were hitting their stride and looked set to overtake our tally. They needed 24 off the last 4 overs. Superb bowling at the death from Malcolm Sibson and Henry McEntyre put the game in the balance. Mike Lewis bowled a tight final over and victory was secured. The only player I haven't mentioned is myself. Batted and bowled but my major contribution these days seems to be keeping score and reporting back. Congratulations to the Mollington half dozen. Mollington 97 for 6 (20 overs) OTC 88 for 7 (20 overs) Mollington won by 9 runs The latest chapter in Mollington's season saw us win a low scoring encounter against neighbours from Saughall. A hugely entertaining contest with the emphasis on fun. The antithesis of the England v Slovenia football match on the same evening. Everyone was given the opportunity to bowl and most had a bat too. Highlights included runs for Peter Baxter (18) and a quickfire 17 not out from Mark Littler. Jake Dowell took two wickets when we bowled. Within the Saughall ranks, valiant runs from Dan Coleman (20), Sam Marshall (20) and David Wrigley (17). Not quite enough in the end as the Mollington bowling proved to be more accurate. 19 JUNE V OTC
Mollington 138-3 (20 overs) OTC 101-4 (20 overs) Mollington won by 37 runs News of another Mollington win. This time up on the Wirral at Irby. A comfortable margin of victory in the end. The weather was a little bit more summery. The dry conditions made batting slightly easier .... for some. Both Geoffrey Bibby and Dave Evans passed the retirement score of 25. Mollington's total of 138 is our highest of the season so far. In return, OTC found run scoring a little more difficult. The Mollington bowling was on top and OTC were never really up with the required rate for victory. 11 JUNE V THE SHIP VICTORY
Mollington 120-5 (20 overs) The Ship Victory 121-2 (18 overs) The Ship Victory won by 8 wickets. A first defeat of the season for Mollington. We were well beaten this time out. So what went wrong? Not enough runs on the board. A bright start - James Dowell retired on 26, Mike Lewis on 30. Unfortunately the Mollington tail offered very little. Only 18 runs were added in the final six overs. The Ship were a player short. We made a serious mistake in loaning them a decent fielder. James Dowell personally accounted for Henry McEntyre (caught) and Paul Nicholson (run out). In return, Mollington fielded with only ten players and didn't complain. The Ship rattled along at the required run rate. Two late catches - by Mike Lewis and a tremendous one on the boundary rope by Graham Atkin - were too little too late. The Ship reached their victory target with relative ease. Oh well. There are two more games against The Ship to come. Chances to make amends. 6 JUNE V BURTON
Mollington 122-6 (20 overs) Burton 105-5 (20 overs) Wait! Hang on a minute! Mollington won again! Something strange is happening as we break the habits of the past. Mollington batted first on a slow damp pitch. Much like last week, we posted a respectable - if not spectacular - score given the adverse conditions. The tally of 122 contained splendid knocks from Mike Lewis and Peter Bibby, who both retired not out on 28. Fortunately both Malcolm Sibson and Graham Atkin were available for selection. Rumours that they were preparing for their invite to the Duke's wedding were quickly quashed. We were reminded that they had been banned from attending. Both had clean bowled the then future Duke in our contests against Eaton at the Grosvenor Estate nearly 20 years ago. Nobility never forget. Mollington's bowling was generally tight and accurate. The fielding was eager. Three wickets for Neil Andrews and two for Peter Bibby. Burton were always behind the run rate and a late onslaught never materialised. Thanks for the support from the MBA - Mollington Barmy Army. (You know who you are). 29 MAY V WIRRAL STAGS
Mollington 112 for 4 (20 overs) Wirral Stags 63 for 5 (20 overs) The first match of the season after winter hibernation saw Mollington take on the Wirral Stags on a gloomy and damp evening that made batting difficult. Mollington batted first and battled to 112, with James Dowell scoring 37 and Dave Evans contributing an unbeaten 27. Wirral Stags struggled against some superb Mollington bowling and were restricted to just 63. The 13-year-old Dowell twins, Oliver and Jake, were particularly impressive, while Mark Taylor shone with 2 wickets for only 7 runs. A comprehensive victory over historically difficult opponents - a fantastic start to the season! Last ball drama from Spasmodics v MCC
